Main Course



Carrots with cumin salad

Ingredients :

  • A bunch of carrots
  • 1 onion
  • ½ cup coriander
  • 2 tbsp raisins (optional)
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • Juice of some lemon
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Salt (optional)
  • Freshly ground pepper to taste
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Method :
Peel and grate the carrots. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Wash, wring dry and cut the coriander. Lightly roast the cumin seeds & crush them a little. To serve, mix the carrots with Olive oil and lemon juice. Add salt and pepper. Add the onions, the cumin and the raisins(optional). Mix in the cinnamon powder. Sprinkle coriander.
Note- Carrots can also be sliced thinly & steamed for a minute instead of grating. Steam for no more than 1 minute to retain the crispiness of carrots

Fresh Beetroot Salad

Ingredients :

  • 1 &1/2 to 2 cups Grated beetroot
  • ½ cup fresh coriander, chopped finely
  • ½ tablespoon onions, minced/grated
  • 2 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped (you may substitute 2 teaspoon dried mint if fresh mint is not available)
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • Salt to taste (sendha namak)
  • 1 small tomato, chopped
  • Fresh ground black pepper

In a salad bowl, mix together beetroot, coriander, onions, mint, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper if desired. Mix well. Add tomato and mix gently. Serve at room temperature, or chill until ready to serve. Serves 4


Peppery Corns salad


  • Whole corn kernels – 2 cups
  • Yellow capsicum – 1 medium sized
  • Green capsicum – 2 medium sized
  • Tomatoes – 3 medium sized
  • Green chilly – 1-2
  • Mint leaves – ½ cup
  • Pepper corns – 15-20
  • Lemon juice – 2 tablespoons
  • Sendha Salt to taste


  • Steam corn kernels. Drain thoroughly and cool.
  • Wash, halve, deseed yellow capsicum and green capsicum, and dice into 1cm sized pieces.
  • Wash tomatoes, cut into quarters, deseed and then dice into 1 cm sized pieces.
  • Wash green chilies, remove stem and then chop them fine.
  • Clean, wash and chop mint leaves. Crush pepper corns.
  • Combine corn kernels, yellow pepper, green pepper and tomatoes. Stir in lemon juice and add crushed pepper corns, salt, chopped green chilies and chopped mint leaves.
  • Arrange in a serving dish and chill before serving.
